Fabulous Pride Garden DIY: Colorful Edible Flowers for Drinks, Salads & More

Today I'm going to talk to you about cool edible flowers that you can do in the pride flag colors! Making a fabulous salad or fancy cocktail is a wonderful gay way to celebrate pride! I'm Gardener Coo here with my man bait nacho and let's get into it!

For red I have the exotic and mysterious Feijoa flowers. Feijoa flowers taste like jolly ranchers, they're that sweet! And the fruit that comes later is even sweeter! One of my favorite fruits and one that you can grow in a lot of climates. Feijoas are a large shrub with beautiful silver leaves that need full sun and moderate water. They're not too fussy on soil.

Orange we go to Africa with Impatiens niamniamensis. These alien looking flowers add a nice crunch to a salad or a sophisticated garnish to a cocktail. Now I know they're actually red and yellow, so if you want a true orange you could also do calendula, also known as the pot marigold! That is a true Orange! The impatiens like full shade and regular water, the calendula likes both full and part sun, and to be grown in the cooler times of the year.

Yellow I'd recommend kale flowers! They taste just like kale which may be a good or bad thing depending on who you are. Kale is a brassica which means they like to be grown in the cool time of the year, and rich soil and full to part sun. Not going to lie I really don't have anything for green at the moment, all of my green flowers are poisonous. I did grow and kill a sweet william called Green Ball available from Select seeds. Sweet williams, also known as Dianthus are cute little flower power houses and also cut well. But seeing as I killed it, maybe you could just eat the buds off this kale flowering stalk.

Blue we have the mildly invasive Borage. The blue star shaped flowers taste like cucumber. I grow it in my herb garden with full sun and regular water.

For the next three colors we're going to be going over to the world of violas. Purple violas are super easy to grow, freely reseed, and attract beneficial insects. Black violas are stunning statement, you can usually buy the plants around halloween. I'm not currently growing any or I would show you! For brown we're going to use our imagination a little bit and grow this gorgeous dark yellow Viola with stripes. They like full to part sun, regular water, and good soil. Okay we're coming around the bend for the final three colors and if you've been enjoying this video please like and subscribe!

For light blue you must try love in the midst, also known as nigella. These flowers are crazyily shaped and really stand out on the salad or in the cocktail glass. This is the plant where black cumin comes from. For the seeds I actually just bought the whole spice from Amazon and planted those! Beware they are a heavy reseeder. Not fussy about soil obviously and grow in full to part sun.

For light pink chive flowers fit the bill! These cute little puffs, poufs?😉, do taste like onion so use accordingly. Give full sun rich soil regular water. Our final flower will be staying in the herb garden and the going over to cilantro, or coriander if you're English. I always let my cilantro Bloom because the flowers are delicious, they taste like cilantro, but the leaves on the flowering stall taste like cilantro times 10. It really amps up the flavor and bonus flowers! Grow cilantro in part shade and regular water. If you don't want super strong tasting cilantro Never let it dry out! Never! That triggers it to bloom, although honestly it feels like basically everything triggers it to bloom, mercury in retrograde, an angry bee, anything. I highly recommend sowing cilantro seeds every month and Do not believe any seed packet that says it's slow to bolt. They all bolt at roughly the same time. You also want to sow it heavily because it has a really bad germination generally. I will put all the plant names in the description for you.

Well there you have it now go make yourself a big gay salad for me. Some contenders I left out are pansies, fuchsias, snapdragons, nasturtiums, even a few types of daylilies! Roses make a huge statement in a salad with only having to pick one flower! I'm Gardener Coo here with co-pilot nacho, go get your hands dirty
